Just Inklined, hoppin’ with Monotones!

Hey yall!  Happy August hop day!!!  I can't believe we are so close to the end of summer 😦  Well this month's hop theme is MONOTONE, chosen by this month's hostess with tha mostess, Miss Jak.  I know Hibiscus are normally brighter colors, but since this one is mine I can make it any color I want 😀  I've also been playing around with some new mediums and this card was perfect!!  For the background panel I used some Barn Door Distress ink, Rhubarb Stalk Memento ink and a beensy bit of Gesso!!  I was so excited with the way it turned out… I was on a roll!!  Next I colored up my flower, I used Copics to color it, but then went over it with some Faber Castell Chalk pencils for some deeper shading… once again, woo hoo!!  While I was coloring the flower I accidentally added some red to one of the leaves 😦  then I started wondering what to do with those silly leaves anyway since I couldn't very well make them green!!

I did some experimenting, thinking that worst case if I didn't like the outcome I'd cut them off.  So I went ahead and colored them like I did the flower petals… not bad, but not quite right either.  So my next brilliant idea was to go over them with a brown, I used E27 and applied just a light layer over all of the reds…LOVE!  I LOVED the result, you can see the red coming through and it reminds me of a fall leaf turning colors!!!!   I am really loving playing with other mediums besides just my Copics!  Hope you enjoyed my Mixed Media Monotone card!
